Homestead Borough’s Mayor oversees the Police Department operations and engages the public on community matters.

 

Our Mayor

John M. Burwell is the first Black Mayor of Homestead, Pennsylvania where the Burwell’s has called home since 1901.  He is in his first term as Mayor. He is employed by UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, where he works as a Community Program Specialist. He is the Minister of Music at the Second Baptist Church in Homestead.  He also is a teaching instructor at the Center for Urban Biblical Ministry where he teaches a Sacred Music Course. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education from Point Park University,

Pittsburgh. He has 3 sons and is married to Angie Turner Burwell.

The Homestead Borough Police Department works to improve the quality of life for Borough residents and visitors by maintaining order, protecting property, protecting life, and reducing crime.

The Homestead Borough Police Department works together with the Mayor and the community to identify needs and solve problems.

Acting Police Chief John Kaschauer (pictured)

Has been with the Homestead Police Department for 28 years and served in various capacities. John has been the DARE and GREAT Officer educating elementary students of the dangers of Drug and Gangs. John also served with multiple Local, State and Federal Narcotics Task Forces. John then was promoted to the rank of Corporal and years later to Sergeant. Serving as the Department Representative of the Fraternal Order of Police.
